A teenage driver has been arrested after a serious accident that claimed the life of 34-year-old Ryan Charley on Friday night.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) identified the driver as 18-year-old Aaron Marcoux.
The crash occurred at Dysart Road and Missouri Avenue in Litchfield Park around 7:30 p.m.
Marcoux was driving a car with two passengers who told deputies the vehicle was going more than “100ish” in an area with a 45 mile per hour limit when it crashed.
The sheriff’s office said the teenager admitted to going 70 mph before the collision.
Investigators tested Marcoux for drugs and alcohol and found that he was not impaired.
The people in his car were taken to the hospital and the authorities said their injuries were not life-threatening.
However, Charley died from his injuries in hospital.
Meanwhile, a press release from MCSO said Marcoux was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on charges of reckless manslaughter, aggravated assault-serious physical injury, and endangerment.
Statistics show that traffic accidents continue to be a problem in Arizona.
In 2018, there were 127,056 motor vehicle crashes and they claimed the lives of 1,010 people and left 53,376 individuals injured.
Driver violations including speeding, reckless driving, impairment, and not wearing a seatbelt accounted for most of the fatalities. Speeding was the most common violation and it accounted for 281 deaths in 2018.
More crashes happened on Fridays than any other day of the week, according to the Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Stats for 2018. The document is compiled by the Arizona Department of Transportation
