The Arizona Department of Public Safety this week released additional details about a fatal wreck that occurred Monday on U.S. 70 near Bylas.
Loren D. Wright, 34, of Bylas, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred just after noon Monday, authorities told local media outlets. Wright’s vehicle struck another on U.S. 70 near mile marker 295.
Authorities said Wright was driving east on U.S. 70 when his vehicle crossed the centerline. It collided with the left side of a semi-tractor trailer, causing significant damage.
The driver of the semi, whose name was not released by authorities, did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Additional details about what led to the wreck weren’t immediately available, and the investigation is ongoing.
Data compiled by local media outlets suggests that stretch of U.S. 70 has a particularly deadly history. Three people were killed in a Feb. 1 head-on wreck; a Texas man was killed in a crash Feb. 9; and three high school students were killed in a rollover accident Feb. 21 near Pima.
Local officials reportedly are working with State of Arizona public safety officials to find ways to mitigate risks on the stretch of U.S. 70.
