Phoenix Auto-Pedestrian Accident Claims the Life of Travis Lee James

A 38-year-old male pedestrian lost his life in an auto-pedestrian collision in Phoenix, Arizona. The crash, which happened on Thursday morning, July 9th, killed Travis Lee James, 25.

The Phoenix Police Department placed the time of the occurrence at about 3:40 a.m. on Indian School Road near 2nd Avenue. Facts from the accident report showed that James was crossing the street when a van driven by a 65-year-old man struck him.

Officers said that the victim died at the scene, and it is unknown if he was impaired at the time of the crash as he was not using the crosswalk. The van’s driver said he did not see James in time to avoid a collision. The man did not suffer any injury, and the police did not cite him. The investigation is ongoing.

Auto-pedestrian accidents are one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in Arizona and the United States. Drivers and pedestrians working together can prevent their occurrence. Safety tips for pedestrians include wearing bright colors for visibility and carrying a flashlight when walking at night or during the early hours of the morning.

Walk on sidewalks and cross using designated crosswalks; avoid jaywalking, texting on the road, and always look left-right-left before crossing the street. Drivers should also do the latter when crossing an intersection and, additionally, yield the way to pedestrians, stop at crosswalks, obey stop signs, and carefully back out of a driveway.
