On Tuesday, August 18th, investigators with the Scottsdale Police Department, Arizona, named Ryan Kelly, 31, as the fatal victim of a waterslide pipe accident in the city. The man allegedly broke into an aquatic center and got stuck in the pipe.
The accident report disclosed that a patrol officer heard faints cry for help early Monday morning, August 17th. The police then commenced a search and determined that the sound came from the locked Eldorado Aquatic and Fitness Center.
The investigators said that their preliminary investigation uncovered that Kelly climbed over the center’s fence. He proceeded to crawl inside a cylindrical support structure for the waterslide, causing him to get stuck.
SPD spokesman, Kevin Watts, said in a press briefing that the hollow steel tube acted as a megaphone, allowing the patrol officer to hear the victim from a quarter-mile away. Fire officials arrived at the scene around 2:30 a.m. and tried to keep Kelly alive by communicating with him.
The firemen had to dismantle the waterslide to get the man out. They were able to pull him out around 7 a.m., but he had already died. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on the victim to determine the official cause of death.
The medical examiner will release an update once the result is available. There is no additional information at this time. Accidents of this nature are preventable if people avoid trespassing private property, which would also prevent legal consequences.
