The Scottsdale Police Department is investigating the death of a homeless man who was run over by a garbage truck while taking a nap under a pile of refuse. The fatality was recorded in an alleyway located in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Wednesday, April 1, as confirmed in the accident reports.
The reports ascertained that the incident took place at about 5:45 am in the area of Camelback and Granite Reef roads. A trash truck owned by the city of Scottsdale was implicated in the mishap.
Preliminary investigations, backed by eyewitness accounts, determined that the Scottsdale garbage truck was making its usual morning rounds of refuse collection prior to the tragedy.
As the truck made its way through the alley as was its regular route, it struck the homeless man, who was asleep, and hidden by the surrounding waste.
The transient suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Scottsdale Police Department identified the dead man as 34-year-old Freddy Tombo.
It was reported that Tombo was wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash. The cloth may have camouflaged with the surrounding waste bags, making it difficult to spot him amid the surrounding dump.
Additional details about the crash were not revealed in the accident reports. Police are still investigating the fatal occurrence.
