Phoenix Police officials have identified the driver who was killed in a two-vehicle collision early Wednesday morning in south Phoenix.
According to Phoenix Police Department officials, the victim was identified as 24-year-old Philliphe Y. Martinez. Martinez was severely injured in the crash and pronounced dead after being rushed to an area hospital.
The crash happened near Broadway Road and 19th Avenue before dawn on the morning of Wednesday February 26.
Martinez was driving southbound on 19th Avenue when he crossed over into oncoming northbound traffic and crashed into a minivan, police said. The crash took place at approximately 3:30 a.m.
The driver of the minivan was taken to a local hospital. For reasons unknown at this time, the extent of injuries, if any, to the driver of the minivan has not been disclosed. The minivan driver has not yet been identified.
Neither car involved was carrying passengers.
The type of car being driven by Martinez is unknown at this time. When emergency responders arrived, Martinez was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing. Speed, weather and impairment will all be investigated. Authorities reported that the driver of the minivan was not impaired at the time of the crash.
