Reuben DeHoyos, 19, and his 17-year-old girlfriend, Sierra Marco, were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle collision on Christmas Eve.
The crash happened at the intersection of Mollison and Peach Avenues in El Cajon, California, when DeHoyos collided with a car that was trying to beat him across the intersection.
Both DeHoyos and Marco suffered serious injuries. DeHoyos required over 500 stitches and a skin graft on his eyelid, and Marco, who is pregnant, suffered lower body never damage and a collapsed lung, and has been treated with multiple chest tubes. Both of them are expected to spend a long time recovering, and will be unable to work for the next several months.
The victims face not only a long road to recovery but also significant medical bills, as their insurance does not fully cover their medical expenses.
