Nicholas Gilland Dies After Two-Vehicle Collision in Perris

Nicholas Gilland, a 35-year-old man from Perris, died of head trauma after a collision between his vehicle and another car. Accident reports state that the crash occurred on Wednesday, May 27, on Highway 74, southwest of Perris, California.

The California Highway Patrol said that Gilland was riding a 2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker and heading east on the 74. He was facing traffic and was crossing Meadowbrook when Tania Marie Ortiz, 19, driving a 2017 Honda Civic, started a left turn onto the street from the highway.

Police officer Juan Quintero said that Ortiz turned following a green light signal and didn’t see Gilland crossing Meadowbrook on his ATV. The two vehicles collided, with the impact causing the victim’s ejection from his motorcycle.

Gilland was not wearing a helmet and landed on the roadway, suffering blunt force trauma to his head as a result. Ortiz didn’t suffer any injuries.

Emergency responders transported the victim to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar. They placed him on life support, which he remained on until 3:30 a.m. on Thursday when he died.

Officer Quintero revealed that the accident is still under investigation. If anyone has any information about the crash, the person should contact the CHP’s Riverside office at 951-637-8000.
