Melanie D. Guerra, 34, Of Waterloo Killed In Multi Car Accident Near Red Bud

A three vehicle, head-on accident near Red Bud claimed the life of 34 year old Melanie D. Guerra of Waterloo.

Just before 8 pm Sunday, a Ford Explorer driven by 63 year old Dennis J. Malott crossed over the center of Route 3, entering the opposite lane. Guerra swerved her GMC Acadia to miss Malott’s car, and collided with a Mitsubishi Lancer driven by a 17 year old woman.

Guerra’s passengers, three boys aged 7, 4, and under 1 years old, and a 10 year old girl, were all treated for injuries. Ms. Guerra died at the scene.

What caused Mallott to enter the opposite lane is still under investigation.
