California Conservation Corps Workers Killed In Crash Identified

Three workers with the California Conservation Corps were killed Tuesday when their van was broadsided by a semi truck on the way to a turf removal project.

The three workers, identified as 21-year-old Justin Vanmeter, 20-year-old Rhonda Shackelford and 18-year-old Serena Guadarrama, were traveling near Reedley when their van stopped in an intersection, and then pulled in front of the truck. All three were killed instantly, and two other victims in the van were hospitalized for their injuries. The truck driver was not injured.

California governor Jerry Brown sent his condolences to the families and ordered flags at the capital to be flown at half-mast.
