Maria Taide Munoz and Maria Gonzalez Killed in Wells Rollover Crash

Two West Wendover women, Maria Taide, 49, and Maria Gonzalez, 80, died in a rollover crash just east of Wells, Nevada.  The incident took place on Wednesday, August 19th, according to the car accident reports provided by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The NVP reported that two minors were also present in the car, which crashed on Interstate 80. Both of them sustained critical injuries, and medics transported them to a hospital via a helicopter.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the victims were traveling in a Ford Excursion SUV, westbound on Interstate 80. About 13 miles east of Wells, in Elko County, the right rear tire tread of the vehicle separated, causing the Ford to drift off the roadway to the left. It then struck a center median and overturned, coming to rest upright.

The Nevada Highway Patrol troopers revealed that only one person in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened. First responders pronounced Taide and Gonzalez dead upon their arrival. The incident remains under investigation by the NVP.

Accidents due to mechanical failure account for less than twelve percent of traffic fatalities in the United States. Although brake-related issues are the major culprits in the category, tire defects, dislodged exhausts, or worn-out motor vehicle parts also contribute to the staggering figures.

These occurrences are avoidable if manufacturing companies utilize durable materials, and the motorist runs periodic checks on the car before hitting the road.
