Pedestrian Katy Lynn Johnson Dies in Crash in East Austin


The woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle in East Austin, Texas on Friday night has been named by police. She is 55-year-old pedestrian Katy Lynn Johnson.

Austin-Travis County EMS said the accident took place at the intersection of East 12th Street and Airport Boulevard around 8:30 p.m.

Police reported that Johnson was walking from the east curb to the west curb in an area that was “not designated” for foot traffic.

She was hit by a car that was heading south on Airport Boulevard.

Medics, police and fire crews responded to the crash and Johnson was declared dead on the scene. 

The driver of the 2011 Nissan Altima that struck Katy Lynn Johnson stayed at the scene to cooperate with investigators.

That person’s name was not released, and it is not yet known if they will face citations or charges.

Police are looking for the other driver and they are also seeking video footage of the accident.

This accident was Austin’s 22nd fatal traffic crash for the year so far. These accidents have resulted in 23 fatalities. At this time last year, there were 14 traffic fatalities.
