Five Dead and Six Injured in Severe Van Accident

Tragic news came out of Illinois this morning when a van that was heading eastbound about four miles west of Vandalia crossed over into the median, then crossed back over eastbound I-70, and rolled several times south of the highway. Five people are dead and six injured as a result of the car accident.

Four of the injured passengers were taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia and are reportedly in stable condition. Two of the passengers were taken to Greenville Regional Hospital in Greenville, Illinois, but their condition have yet to be reported. The five people who lost their lives in the fatal accident were thrown from the van during the crash.

The van was transporting the passengers’ home from a religious function they had attended in California. The van displayed Maryland license plates, but its final destination has yet to be determined.

Both eastbound lanes of 70 were closed this morning, while police investigated the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
