Two men lost their lives in a fiery car crash that occurred in the Gold Coast over the weekend according to accident reports. The fatal incident took place on Sunday, September 13. Authorities identified one of the two deceased as Jatwaun Smith, 22, of Rogers Park. The identity of the other deceased was not released.
According to the details shared by the Chicago police, the incident happened on the Lake Shore Drive. The driver of a vehicle was traveling along the road when he apparently lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then collided with the concrete median before hitting a natural gas line. After hitting the line, the car flipped on its side and went up in flames.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday and was reported to the authorities at around 3:20 a.m. By the time the paramedics and first responders arrived on the scene of the crash, both men had managed to get out of the vehicle. However, they had suffered severe burns. They were then rushed to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment.
Attempts to revive both individuals failed and they succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. They were pronounced dead at the hospital. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified Jatwaun Smith as one of the victims but the identity of the other victim remains unknown.
