Raymond Baroud Receives $3 Million For Bus Accident Injury

A man had received $3 million in a settlement for injury caused in a bus accident. The settlement amount has been offered by the Chicago Transit Authority as it was one of the CTA buses that caused the injury. The settlement between the victim’s auto accident attorneys and CTA was approved on Wednesday, April 22.

The victim who has received the settlement in this case has been identified as Raymond Baroud, 80, of Chicago, Illinois. The accident which prompted the lawsuit against CTA took place back in November, 2018. Baroud was crossing the Madison Street at Pulaski Road on the West Side when he was struck by a CTA bus.

Baroud sustained critical injuries in the bus accident. He remained in coma for a period after the crash and had his left leg amputated, leaving him disabled for life.

CTA initially argued that Baroud was in the driver’s blind spot which prevented him from being visible to the driver. However, during the proceedings of the case, Baroud’s attorney shared surveillance video of the crash from cameras located nearby. The video shows that the bus driver should have been able to see Baroud and avoid hitting him.

As the CTA driver appeared negligent in the case, CTA agreed to discuss a settlement with Baroud’s attorneys. In the end, the auto accident attorneys representing Baroud agreed with CTA to a settlement of $3 million. The large amount of settlement reflects the serious injury caused by the negligence of a CTA employee and the lifelong disability it caused Baroud.
