Two people suffered serious injuries Saturday night when a suspected drunk driver rolled a utility vehicle in Jo Daviess County, according to authorities.

Travis E. Near, 23, of Warren, and Nicole A. Deyo, 30, of Apple River, were seriously injured, according to a release from the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. The UTV’s driver, Richard A. Kent, 28, of Warren, and another passenger were uninjured, deputies said.

Kent was arrested on multiple charges after the incident. He will be represented in Jo Daviess County District Court by a drunk driving attorney.

Deputies said Kent was following another UTV driver on North Bellevue Street near South Holland Road in Warren just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Kent eventually lost control of his UTV on a sharp turn, causing it to veer off the road and overturn in a field, authorities said.

Near was airlifted to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford for treatment of serious injuries, according to the sheriff’s department. Deyo was taken via ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington, Wis., for treatment.

Updated condition reports weren’t available Monday. Authorities did not publicly disclose the name of Kent’s third passenger, who was not injured in the crash.

Kent was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol, operating an ATV or UTV on a roadway illegally and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, according to the release from the sheriff’s department.

Kent’s drunk driving attorney will oversee his criminal defense.
