Motor vehicle accidents continue to be one of the leading causes of death in Illinois and the United States. Most factors leading to collisions are preventable if drivers obey traffic rules and regulations, and follow the safety tips laid down by law enforcement and traffic agencies.
Drivers should exercise caution when on the road, especially when passing big vehicles like semi-trucks or trailers. Count to three before entering an intersection on a green light, look both ways and ensure no one is trying to speed through a yellow light.
Carry out engine maintenance regularly, avoid sudden stalls and other failures by changing the oil regularly, and keep the tires properly inflated. Always scan the road 12 seconds ahead, stay on the right side of the road, and look backwards before backing out of parking spaces.
