Firefighter Mark Amore Loses Life in Lake County Accident


A firefighter lost his life in a tragic accident that took place in the Lake County on Thursday, April 16 as per local accident reports. He has been identified as Mark Amore, 46. Amore was a firefighter with the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District. He leaves behind two small kids and his wife as well as a large number of mourning friends and colleagues.

The workplace accident which led to his death occurred at the Ben Watts Marina in Lake County, Illinois. Amore was operating a Bobcat machine, a heavy piece of machinery. As he operated the equipment at the Marina, he misjudged the configuration. The equipment ended up rolling over into the water, trapping Amore inside the machinery.

According to the Battalion Chief of Fox Lake Fire Protection District, Larry Van Hoorelbeke, Amore had miscalculated the edge of his seawall which led to the unfortunate incident. Hoorelbeke also confirmed that with the way the piece of equipment had to be operated Amore was trapped inside the operator’s compartment following the incident.

Following the incident, condolences and remembrances surrounding Amore began to pour in from family, friends and colleagues. A Facebook post remembering the fall firefighter came from McHenry Mayor Wayne Jett. Jett said that Amore was remembered as someone who had immense love for his family and friends. The post also said he will be dearly missed.

Messages of condolence from the local community were posted in large numbers to the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District’s Facebook page after the initial accident reports. These came after the fire department, in an official post, mourned the loss of the beloved firefighter.
