Car Versus Train Collision Injures Dustin Hooker and Two Others

Three men were injured in Marcellus Township, Michigan after a car drove into the path of a train following a brake failure. Auto accident attorneys may argue that the accident, which occurred on Thursday, April 16, was no fault of the driver’s as it resulted from an unforeseen fault in the vehicle.

The incident took place at about 6 pm, on the railway tracks running across Savage Road. According to reports by Cass County Sheriff deputies, the vehicle involved was traveling through the north traffic lanes on Savage Road. At the same time, a train was moving through the permanent way.

Just as the car approached the intersection of Waterstradt Street, the brakes failed, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. As a result, the car slammed into the passing train.

The motorist, identified as Dustin Hooker, 44, from Battle Creek, was restrained at the time and suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital.

The two passengers in the car, who were reportedly not wearing seat belts, were forcefully ejected from the car in the process and sustained critical injuries.

One of the passengers, Paul Smith, 43, of Tekonsha, was transported via air ambulance to the hospital, while the other, 33-year-old Gayland Campbell, from Marcellus, was taken by road. Both were listed in critical conditions.

Hooker, who has since been declared out of danger, was not suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol when the crash happened.

It is important for victims of traffic collisions to contact experienced auto accident attorneys for representation. That way, the investigation can be closely monitored, and all evidence properly reviewed by an expert.
