Hunter Arbuckle Killed in Bloomington Mowing Accident

On Wednesday, August 19th, the McLean County Coroner, Kathy Yoder,  revealed that Hunter W. Arbuckle, 25, of Norman, died in a work-related accident in Bloomington, Illinois. The accident happened outside YWCA, located at 1201 N. Hershey Road.

Christy Germanis, the spokesperson for the YWCA, said in a press release that the occurrence did not involve clients, children, or staff. Yoder noted that Arbuckle was mowing the lawn when the incident happened.

The coroner disclosed that the preliminary autopsy showed that the victim died from traumatic compressional asphyxia sustained as the operator of a riding lawnmower that overturned. The toxicology result is pending, and the coroner’s office will release an update later.

The accident report showed that the Bloomington Police Department and firefighters responded to a medical assist call in the 1200-block of North Hershey Road. When they arrived, they found Arbuckle trapped under a large mower.

Officers investigated the occurrence and called for the coroner. When Yoder arrived, she examined the victim and pronounced him dead at about 8:36 a.m. There is no additional information.

Accidents of this nature are not as common as motor vehicle crashes, but like the latter, operators of a land mower must follow safety tips when operating it. Read the mower’s instruction manual before usage, keep it in good working condition, and only use one with protection over its hot and sharp parts.

Pick up potential flying objects like stones, toys, debris, before mowing, wear goggles, hearing protection, and long pants. Avoid mowing while intoxicated, leave safety devices or switch guards on, and never lift a mover by the bottom for transport.
