A fatal road accident involving a truck killed one woman in LaSalle County. The accident took place in the early hours of Wednesday, February 26.

According to the details available so far, Lori Szafranski, 55, of Streator was traveling on the East 22nd Road in the Fall River Township when the crash happened. Icy road conditions in the region created risks for drivers. While driving on a slick patch of the road, Lori Szafranski seems to have lost control of the pickup truck she was driving.

As Szafranski lost control of her truck, she came into the path of the oncoming traffic in the southbound lane. It was then that her vehicle was hit by another truck. The collision took place at around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Szafranski sustained critical injuries in the collision and died at the scene of the accident.

The other truck driver involved in the crash has been identified as Ronald Soderstrom, 25, from Danville. Soderstrom also incurred injuries in the crash although the extent and severity of his injuries is not known at this time. As emergency personnel arrived at the site of the accident, Soderstrom was rushed to the OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Ottawa. It is unclear whether he remains under treatment at the hospital or has been released.

A number of law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the incident. These include the Illinois State Police, the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office and the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office. More details will be available once the authorities conclude their investigations.
