Police: Arrest Made Months After Zion Crash That Killed Nancy Ezell

A teenager who fatally struck a woman with a vehicle in December near the woman’s Zion home has been arrested on a homicide charge, according to authorities.

Kevin Lancaster, 17, of Zion, was arrested over the weekend on charges of leaving the scene of a crash and reckless homicide, according to the North Chicago Police Department. The charges stem from a Dec. 7 incident that resulted in the death of Nancy Ezell, 63.

Police said Lancaster and a woman, who was not publicly identified, were in a vehicle parked Ezell’s driveway on Dec. 7. Ezell and her adult granddaughter noticed the car and went outside to see what the occupants were doing, according to authorities.

The driver, later identified as Lancaster, threw the vehicle into reverse and crashed into Ezell, running her over, police said. Ezell reportedly was dragged underneath the car and was struck again as the vehicle sped off.

Ezell was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries several days later, according to authorities.

Police announced the arrest on Tuesday, stating that an extensive investigation ultimately helped them identify Lancaster and make an arrest. Lancaster has been taken to a juvenile detention center where was held on bond.
