Single-Vehicle Accident Victim Identified as Leo Ciaccio

The Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner identified the victim of a single-vehicle accident on April 19 as 31-year-old Leo Ciaccio. The accident occurred close to 6:22 a.m. at the intersection of East 6500 South and South 13000 East in Pembroke Township.

Based on the preliminary report compiled by the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office, Ciaccio of Watseka was the only occupant in the vehicle at the time of the accident. When the police arrived at the scene, Ciaccio was outside of the vehicle after apparently being ejected during the accident.

Gessner did determine that the cause of death was likely the blunt force injuries sustained to Ciaccio’s body during the accident. The evidence found at the scene leads the coroner to believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision.

A toxicology report has been ordered for Ciaccio’s body, but the presence of alcohol cannot be confirmed until it comes back. It is highly probable, given the circumstances of the accident, that Ciaccio was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. This has not been confirmed with the coroner as of the time of publishing.

There were no other victims or vehicles involved in the accident. Police are seeking the help of the community for witnesses that may have any information. At this time, they have not figured out why Ciaccio’s vehicle left the roadway.

The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating this single-vehicle accident and will publish updates once they become available.
