Timothy Denning Dies in Lee County Construction Accident

One of the accident reports from the Lee County area of Illinois disclosed that a man died in a construction incident on Thursday, July 2nd. The Lee County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Todd Denning, 34, of Rock Falls.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, they received a call about work construction equipment falling on one of the workers. Officers responded to the area of Carter Road, north of Todd Road around 3:12 p.m., and found Denning unresponsive.

They discovered that a machine rolled into a ditch on top of the victim, leaving him fatally injured. The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene. There is no additional information.

Warmer weather often means that there is a lot of construction work going on. Thus, construction companies and road users must adhere to safety tips. The first thing is to properly control traffic with advanced warning signs alerting motorists of upcoming changes in driving conditions. Create a transition using traffic control devices for lane closures, and traffic pattern shifts.

There should be a buffer area, the work area, and a termination area to allow traffic to resume and indicate when work ends. All traffic devices must comply with the Federal Highway Administration’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices along with state agency requirements.

Additionally, create separate work areas, wear proper safety equipment, and avoid blind spots. Every team member should be competent, have a safety meeting before the start of each workday, have a site-specific safety program, and stay hydrated.
