Authorities: Timothy Schackelford Killed In Wreck On Chicago’s South Side

Investigators have deemed that the cause of a crash that claimed the life of an Alsip man Thursday night was accidental.

Timothy O. Schackelford, 68, died from injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday night on U.S. 94 near 95th Street, according to Illinois State Police. It doesn’t appear that anyone else was injured in the incident, and no other vehicles were involved.

Authorities said Schackelford was driving his sedan north at high speeds when he lost control of the vehicle at the Stony Island feeder ramp. The vehicle was propelled off the roadway and into a nearby tree.

Schackelford, who reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, died from his injuries a few hours later at a nearby hospital, investigators said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Friday, which confirmed that Schackelford died from trauma caused by the accident, local media outlets report.
