Troopers: Philip Kilver Killed, Jesse Pitman Injured In Winchester Rollover Crash

One man was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle wreck Thursday night in Winchester, authorities said Friday.

Philip W. Kilver, 50, of Winchester, died from injuries sustained in the wreck, according to the Illinois State Police. A passenger, Jesse M. Pitman, 51, also of Winchester, was hurt in the crash as well, but his wounds weren’t believed to be life-threatening.

Illinois State Police said Kilver was driving west on Cherry Street at about 7:50 p.m. Thursday when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway. The vehicle then struck a utility pole and rolled over, according to authorities.

Scout County Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene, but Kilver was declared dead before he could be transported for treatment, according to the Illinois State Police. Pitman was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries, authorities said.

An Illinois State Police report said both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Additional details about what factors are suspected to have contributed to the crash weren’t immediately released.

Several agencies responded to the scene. They included Winchester police, the Scott County Sheriff’s Department and the Winchester Fire Department.
