UPDATE: Stacy Shapiro Arrested in Hit-and-Run Accident of Chase Thompson

Days after Thad Thompson made his plea to the media outlets for the person who hit their son to come forward, someone has been arrested.

46-year-old Stacy Shapiro of Northbrook is currently in custody regarding the hit-and-run accident of Chase Thompson last Friday evening in Deerfield.

Shapiro is currently facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident that involved personal injury. If she is found guilty of these charges and convicted, she could spend three to seven years in state prison.

Earlier in the week police had seized the car that they believed has hit Thompson on the night of the accident. At that time, they were also interviewing someone they considered to be a person of interest in the case.

The Deerfield Police Department took Shapiro into their custody when she turned herself in after the charges had been approved. At that time a warrant had been issued for her arrest.

The most recent update on Thompson’s condition is that he is still in critical condition and under medical sedation due to the extent of his injuries.

Thomson is a 12-year-old boy who is also autistic and nonverbal. He has suffered multiple broken bones, including ones in his face, and injuries to his lungs as a result of being hit by the Ford Escape.

The family was offering a $10,000 reward to the person who caused the accident if they turned themselves in. This was to use toward their legal defense. There has been no mention if Shapiro will be receiving this.

The family wasn’t mad at Shapiro for hitting Chase, they were upset because she left him there in the road after the accident.
