The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department cited a male driver after a two-vehicle collision on Illinois Route 84 in White County, Illinois. The investigators said that the incident involving Weston A. Walston, 31, of Chadwick occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 20th.

The crash report disclosed that deputies responded to a call about a vehicle collision on IR-84 near Great River Road Antiques. When they arrived, lawmen found that the suspect traveled south on the roadway when he failed to see a vehicle waiting to turn onto Great River.

The vehicles collided, leaving the occupants of the second vehicle with minor injuries. The sheriff’s department said that the driver, Darrell G. Hubbard, 90, of Maquon, and a passenger, Carol J. Morse, 76, of Delong, received treatment from the paramedics at the scene.

The two refused transport by ambulance to a medical facility. The deputies found fault with Walston and cited him for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. They released the man from the scene with a promise to comply; he would need a car injury lawyer.

The WCSD had assistance from officers from the Fulton Police Department, Thomson firefighters and EMS, Fulton EMS, and Midwest Collision. There is no additional information.

When approaching an intersection, Illinois traffic laws provide that a driver must reduce his or her speed, and stop before entering the intersection or a crosswalk. Motorists who break this rule are liable to pay a fine and have points against their driver’s license.
