Authorities have identified the bicyclist who was killed when he was struck by a vehicle Saturday afternoon in Ypsilanti Township.

Gregory Detmer, 70, of Ypsilanti, died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday afternoon on Packard Road, according to authorities. No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Police said Detmer at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday attempted to ride his bike across Packard Road near the intersection with North Hewitt Road when he was struck by a passing vehicle heading east on the roadway. Authorities said he was near his home at the time of the incident.

Authorities were called to the scene, but Detmer was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Investigators said one driver was able to avoid hitting Detmer, but the second vehicle collided with his bicycle. Police did not publicly identify either driver.

Authorities did not say whether Detmer had the right-of-way at the time his bicycle was struck by the motorist. No citations or charges have been reported by authorities and it wasn’t immediately clear whether any punitive actions are forthcoming. 

The incident remains under investigation by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department.
