Brian Johnson Charged in Crash That Killed Two

A man has been charged in connection with a fatal accident which resulted in the death of a young woman and a toddler. The accident took place on the West Howard City Edmore Road back in January, 2019.

On Friday, February 28, the Kent County Prosecutor confirmed that Brian Johnson, 28, of Cedar Springs is now being charged for the tragic crash. The case will be put before a jury. Johnson is being represented by a special prosecutor. At this point, it’s not clear if Johnson will reach a plea arrangement or if the case is going to go to trial.

The accident in which Johnson is facing charges took place on January 6, 2019. Samantha Baker, 18, and her niece Annalee Baker, who was only 9 months old, were riding in a vehicle when they were hit by Johnson’s vehicle. Samantha Baker was taking a left turn on the road when Johnson crashed into her vehicle.

The initial impact of the collision pushed the Baker’s vehicle into the path of another vehicle. The dual collision caused excessive damage to the vehicle. The toddler died at the spot from her injuries. Samantha Baker was rushed to a hospital where she died the next day.

Johnson is now being tried for a misdemeanor charge for his role in the accident. The exact charge that has been brought against Johnson is not clear at this point. The penalties he may eventually face will depend greatly on the demonstrable degree of negligence he was guilty of.
