Two Injured in US 131 Crash Involving Tractor Trailer

Two women were injured in an accident that took place close to Grand Rapids on Wednesday, March 25. The incident involved a tractor-trailer and a passenger car, according to the details shared by the troopers.

The crash was reported early in the day at around 11:30 a.m. A passenger car that had two occupants in it was traveling northbound on the I-96 overpass in Walker. Just as the car switched lanes, it collided with a tractor-trailer. The collision caused the driver of the passenger vehicle to lose control. As a result, the car then hit the guardrail before colliding into the tractor trailer a second time. After the second collision with the trailer, the vehicle struck a concrete barrier and came to a stop.

The vehicle had a 20-year-old woman and an 18-year-old female as its occupants at the time of the crash. Both women sustained injuries in the crash, although their injuries are reported as non-critical. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the tractor-trailer remained safe in the incident and had no injuries. According to the troopers, the passenger car occupants who were injured were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.

Following the crash, Michigan State Police, EMS and other agencies reached the site of the crash. The northbound lanes of I-96 were shut down as the authorities conducted rescue, cleanup and investigations on site. The road was reopened at around 2 p.m. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine what caused the accident.

Updates will follow on the names of the victims.
