A single-vehicle crash that took place on Thursday, February 27, claimed the life of the driver of the vehicle involved. The driver has been identified by the authorities as Trevor David Becker, 42, of Sault Ste. Marie.
According to the details shared by the police, the vehicle involved in the crash was found in the middle of the roadway on Tilson Road close to Rudyard Township while Trevor David Becker himself was found in a ditch nearby. There were no witnesses to the crash which took place late in the evening at about 10:15 p.m.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that Becker probably lost control of the vehicle due to speeding and dangerous road conditions. The car then swerved away from the roadway and hit a tree. It was then that Becker was ejected from the vehicle as he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Police also surmise that the car probably hit the tree at a considerable speed and after hitting it, it spun back onto the road.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash and Becker was the only occupant in the accident vehicle at the time of the crash. As help and rescue personnel reached the site of the accident, attempts were made to revive Becker. However, these failed and he was pronounced dead at the spot. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, especially to better understand exactly how the accident took place. Investigations are being led by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office which is assisted by other law enforcement agencies.
