A snowmobile accident that took place on February 25, Tuesday led to the death of the driver who was riding the snowmobile at the time. The incident happened in the Whitefish Township of Chippewa County.
According to the details shared by the Michigan State Police, the driver of the snowmobile was traveling alone on Trail no. 452 at the time. The trail is also known as Betsy River Road. As the snowmobile drew close to the Wide Water Road, the driver lost control of his snowmobile for some reason. The vehicle then veered away from the trail and hit a tree.
Authorities were notified of the crash at about 12:41 p.m. A number of law enforcement agencies responded to the crash in the rescue, clean up and investigation efforts. These include Michigan State Police, Whitefish EMS, Whitefish Fire services and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
The driver who died in the tragic accident has been identified as Zackary Snider, 28. Snider was from Hart. He sustained critical injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the spot.
Michigan State Police and other relevant agencies continue to investigate the accident. It is not clear exactly why Zackary lost control of the snowmobile so that it left the trail and hit the tree. Police have not ruled out alcohol, speeding or other common causes of accidents. Another possible reason could be weather and trail conditions. However, a definite cause will be known only once the investigations about the incident are concluded.
