24-year old Anthony Barrera was killed in a motorcycle crash on S. Virginia, according to a report by Nevada Highway Patrol. He was on a motorcycle, speeding south after leaving Tamarack Junction Casino in Reno, on the highway at a speed of over 100 MPH and making numerous swift lane changes.
According to police, the driver of a Hyundai Kona turned to go north on the highway into Tamarack Junction. He was also leaving the same casino. The driver didn’t see the speeding motorcycle because of the rapid lane changes. When Barrera, the rider, tried to brake, the bike overturned and ejected him. Both Barrera and the motorcycle hit the left side of the car, causing it to spin and overturn.
Police pronounced the motorcyclist dead on the scene. He was 24, from Reno, Nevada.
The driver of the Hyundai was not to blame. He will not face any penalties.
The Nevada Highway Patrol confirmed that the motorcyclist was going at more than 100 mph before the crash. He hit the SUV as it was turning.
In Nevada, car accident law imposes a number of legal duties on drivers involved in a collision with a motor vehicle. These include moving out of traffic, notifying police if someone has been injured and helping anyone who has been injured, and reporting the accident to the DMV unless the police have already done so.
These duties apply to all car accidents, including truck accidents, motorcycle accidents in Nevada, accidents involving pedestrians, accidents involving commercial vehicles, and more.
