An 18-year-old died earlier this week after getting hit by a vehicle while crossing the street in Las Vegas, Nevada, and has now been identified. Auto accident attorneys may argue that the teenager, who was identified by the Nevada Highway Patrol as Dezaree Chanice Noreen Brown, holds the greater liability for the accident as she was jaywalking across the road when she was struck.
The fatal occurrence played out at about 10 pm on Monday, April 27, close to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Officers responded to the crash shortly after it was called in by witnesses and discovered that at least one pedestrian and two vehicles were involved.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Dezaree Brown was first struck by a 2019 Peterbilt tractor, and then by a second vehicle in the area of Las Vegas Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard.
The tractor-trailer was reportedly northbound on Las Vegas Blvd when Brown suddenly ventured into the roadway, outside a marked crosswalk, directly in front of the tractor in an attempt to cross.
As a result, the left front portion of the tractor-trailer collided with her, pushing her into the southbound lanes in the process. That was where a second unidentified car ran her over. Dezaree Brown was pronounced dead at the crash site.
The operator of the tractor stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers who believe he was not impaired at the time. However, the second vehicle fled the scene of the accident. The incident is still under investigation.
In seemingly complicated situations such as this, it is advisable to seek legal counsel from experienced auto accident attorneys.
