A woman has died in hospital nearly a week after she was involved in a crash in the southern Las Vegas valley. Confirmation of this came from police this week. In earlier accident reports, officers said 36-year-old Lakesha Gooden showed signs of impairment.
The crash occurred on March 27 and police say Gooden died on April 2.
On the night the crash occurred, eyewitnesses said they saw Gooden’s Lexus veer off the road on Windmill Lane in the area of Carob Way. Police said the vehicle hit a brick wall and then came back on the roadway and hit a Dodge Charger.
A Mercedes Benz suffered damage in the crash when bricks from the wall flew across the area.
According to officers, Gooden was not wearing a seat belt and she was ejected from the car. Emergency responders rushed the Las Vegas resident to the hospital.
The drivers of the other two vehicles remained at the scene and the authorities said they did not show signs of impairment.
No information was released about the victim’s blood alcohol concentration.
However, in Nevada, it is illegal to drive a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08 percent or higher.
It is also illegal to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Under the influence means being impaired to the extent that an individual cannot drive safely.
Gooden’s death was the 25th traffic-related death handled by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for the year so far.
The accident remains under investigation and additional accident reports may be forthcoming.
