Ebone Whitaker Arrested for DUI Crash that Killed Two Teens in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a press release that two 16-year-old female teenagers died after getting hit by a DUI driver in Las Vegas, Nevada. They noted that Ebone Whitaker, 38, drove the vehicle involved in the Monday, August 3rd, collision, and he would need a drunk driving attorney’s service.

The girls, identified as Citali Mora and Nelly Amaya Rodriguez, walked in a marked crosswalk when the incident took place at about 7 p.m. on Katie Avenue near Twain Avenue and Maryland Parkway. The police said that several cars were parked on the roadway because of a red light. At the same time, Whitaker went off the road near the intersection and drove over a curb.

The woman’s car struck a traffic sign on the sidewalk and kept moving before hitting the teenagers. The vehicle continued until it struck a tree and a traffic pole on the southwest corner of the intersection. The impact fell the tree, and it hit two cars with occupants.

One of the teens died at the scene while the other passed away while receiving treatment at Sunrise Hospital. The police did not report injuries for the occupants of the two cars affected, but they stated that Whitaker sustained severe injuries and received treatment in a hospital.

The LVMPD determined that the suspect drove impaired and placed her under arrest for driving under the influence resulting in death. The demise of Mora and Rodriguez marked the 56th and the 57th traffic-related death in the Metropolitan Police division this year. The inquiry into the crash continues.
