Real Estate Broker Scott Gragson Pleads Guilty to DUI Charges

Well-known real estate broker Scott Gragson pleaded guilty on Friday to felony charges of DUI causing death, and DUI causing substantial bodily harm.

The charges stem from a May 30, 2019 crash that killed 36-year-old Melissa Newton and injured three others.

Gragson, who is the grandson of former Las Vegas Mayor Oran Gragson, had crashed into a tree, ejecting his passengers who were not wearing seatbelts.

The hearing took under 15 minutes as the 53-year-old answered “Yes, your honor” to every question the judge put to him.

According to Gragson’s arrest report,  following the accident he voluntarily submitted to field sobriety tests and failed three of them.

He was taken to UMC Trauma for a medical evaluation and two blood samples were taken.

During a status hearing, prosecutors told the court Gragson’s blood alcohol level was.14 which is nearly twice the legal limit.

Gragson reportedly admitted to police that he had “four to five mixed drinks” along with Coors beer before the crash.

Last June, the prominent businessman entered a not guilty plea to three counts of felony DUI resulting in death/substantial bodily harm, and three counts of felony reckless driving resulting in death/substantial bodily harm.

His legal team had indicated that he would contest the charges.

However, following the guilty plea, it is expected that Gragson will be sentenced to 15 to 25 years in prison. He may become eligible for parole after six years. The judge will sentence him on June 12.
