An accident that happened late on Wednesday, February 12, has left a 53-year-old man in critical condition and a 38-year-old man in jail.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Midway Road and President George Bush Turnpike in Dallas.
The Texas Department of Transportation has reported that the 53-year-old victim was driving through the intersection of Midway Road and President George Bush Turnpike with the flashing yellow light.
The opposite side had a flashing red light which was disregarded by Joel George when he failed to yield the right-of-way to the man in the other lane.
George collided with the other car on the left side. The car spun around and rested when it crashed into a traffic light pole.
The man in the car was removed from the vehicle and transported to the hospital with injuries sustained in the accident that has left him in critical condition. The identity of the man has not been disclosed at this time.
Both vehicles were completely totaled in the collision.
Police arrested George on the scene because he was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and while talking to police following the accident.
George is currently facing intoxication assault charges for the accident, which is a third-degree misdemeanor.
If the victim in the accident does not overcome the serious nature of his injuries, there is a possibility that George could receive an upgraded charge to intoxication manslaughter. Intoxication manslaughter is a second-degree felony.
