Authorities have identified the woman killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in Gregg County.
Cynthia B. Murry, 66, of Gilmer, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, and two others were transported to area hospitals for treatment, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Authorities said Aaron Barbosa-Valerio, 23, of Gilmer, was driving a pickup truck north on Texas 300 at about 7:30 a.m. Friday when he crossed into the southbound lane. His vehicle collided with a southbound SUV operated by Rucker S. Murry, 65, of Gilmer, troopers said.
Cynthia Murry was a passenger in Rucker Murry’s vehicle, according to authorities. She was pronounced dead at the scene by an area judge and was transported to Gilmer funeral home.
Troopers said Rucker Murry suffered significant injuries in the crash and was transported to an area hospital, where he remains in serious condition. Barbosa-Valerio also was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Authorities have not said whether any citations or charges were issued as a result of the wreck.
However, troopers did say they believe Barbosa-Valerio might have been traveling too fast for conditions.
