The Police in Bastrop County have identified the four persons killed in two separate crashes on Texas 71 that occurred last week. According to accident reports, officials identified the victims on Tuesday, May 26.
The victims’ identities are 20-year-old Eulisses Martinez Zavala, of Bastrop, Ramero Arenas Aguilar, 60, of Austin, and Miguel Diaz, 45, of Austin. They died following a crash on Sunday, May 17. Two days later, on Tuesday, May 19, Wanda Evans, 70, died in another accident. Both crashes happened along the highway in the Cedar Creek area.
Authorities reported that at about 1:40 PM, Zavala was driving a 2001 Honda west in Texas 71’s eastbound lanes. He then collided head-on with a 2010 Toyota Corolla near the Blue Flame Road intersection.
When paramedics arrived, they pronounced Zavala dead at the scene. There were two passengers in the car, and they suffered critical wounds. The medics flew them to a hospital via a helicopter. Meanwhile, Diaz and Ramero, who were in the Toyota, died at the scene as well.
Two days after the accident, Wanda Evans died in another collision that occurred near the Tucker Hill and Texas 71 intersection. Evans was driving west on Texas 71 in a 2006 Chevrolet vehicle. In front of her was a 2007 Chevrolet SUV.
Evans was going at high speed, and as the SUV stopped at a red light, she couldn’t stop in time, striking the vehicle’s rear. Accident reports state that emergency responders pronounced her dead at the crash scene.
