A solo car crash on Sunday afternoon, May 24th, in Johnson County, Texas, ended two lives and sent one to the hospital with severe injuries. The accident report released by the authorities disclosed the survivor’s name as Barbara Underwood, 39.
The crash report revealed that soldiers responded to a call about the accident at about 12:30 p.m. at CR 604 near Happy Trail Road. The Texas Department of Public Safety said Underwood was the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident.
The woman and two teens aged 17 were heading north on CR 604, approaching a bridge. For unknown reasons, the vehicle — before the trio got to the bridge — turned left and crashed into a railing. The impact of the collision left the teenagers fatally injured, and the medics pronounced them dead at the scene.
Underwood sustained significant injuries, and the medics took her to the hospital for treatment. The TDPS identified the two teenagers as Alvarado residents and will release their identities pending notification of the next-of-kin.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and there is no additional information at this time.
Solo vehicle crashes are not uncommon in Texas and occur for several reasons. They include speeding, distracted driving, adverse weather conditions, animal sighting, and impairments. Traffic authorities advise drivers to desist from the preceding and practice safe road behaviors for their safety.
Anyone who witnesses a solo vehicle crash should make an accident report immediately to enable first responders to arrive on time.
