On February 14, the Harris County Sheriff’s Department received an accident call in Humble. The accident occurred on Old Humble Road around 5:30 a.m.
The report states that a cement truck had left a nearby company with a full load of wet cement. The driver of the cement truck was unaware that he was leaking cement all over Old Humble Road. Officials determined the drum was rotating in the wrong direction. This caused the spillage.
A Houston gospel singer, 49-year-old LaTonya Earl, had dropped her husband off at work. Then the accident happened.
The accident involved a 19-year-old named Seliz Palacios. The true nature of which vehicle drove through the cement has not been determined. Police thought it was Earl’s vehicle, but they are not sure now.
One of the vehicles drove through the wet cement and jumped the center median in the road. This made the car enter oncoming traffic and crash into another vehicle head-on. The position of the vehicles was not enough to determine which vehicle jumped the median.
The driver of the cement truck stopped when he noticed the leaking cement. He tried to render aid but was not successful.
He has been cooperative with authorities during the whole investigation of the accident.
Both drivers died due to the severity of the injuries they sustained in the accident.
The accident is an ongoing investigation. Updates will be available when released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
