Derek Shane Morgan Killed, Melissa Neff and Jeremy Gilmore Injured in Rollover Accident


One man died and another two people suffered injuries on Tuesday in a rollover accident in Young County. The injured people may consult with a Texas car injury lawyer.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred east of FM 2179.

DPS said Jeremy Gilmore, was travelling at an unsafe speed and he was not able to stay on the roadway when he approached a bend in the road.

The car went into a barrow ditch on the north side and rolled multiple times before landing on its roof.

Gilmore was transporting two passengers.

One of them, 43-year-old Graham resident Derek Shane Morgan, was declared dead around 6 p.m.

Melissa Neff, the other passenger, was taken to Fort Worth’s John Peter Smith Hospital. She suffered serious injuries.

Meanwhile, Gilmore fled the crash scene, but law enforcement officers found him later. He was also taken to John Peter Smith Hospital with serious injuries.

It is not yet known if he will face charges.

Rollover crashes have the highest fatality rate among traffic accidents. They make up just two percent of crashes in the United States. However, about 35 percent of passenger deaths occur as a result of these types of accidents.
