Accident reports released by the El Paso authorities confirmed the death of a motorist whose vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and caused a head-on collision in El Paso, Texas. The tragic incident, which left two others injured took place on Monday afternoon, May 11.
Officers responded to the fatal crash at about 2 p.m., on reports of a wrong-way motorist that crashed into another vehicle on the 12000-block of McCombs. No fewer than three casualties resulted from the traffic wreck, police said.
Investigations conducted at the scene showed the fatal victim initiated the accident. The motorist was driving through McCombs, with no passenger in his vehicle. Just as he neared the 12000-block of the street, the driver, for reasons yet to be established, crossed the dividing line and drove his vehicle into the opposite bound traffic.
Almost immediately, the motorist collided head-on with an oncoming minivan, causing severe damages to both vehicles. The driver suffered fatal injuries in the crash and medics pronounced him dead at the scene shortly after they arrived. Authorities disclosed the deceased’s identity as 37-year-old Michael Aceto.
The minivan was at the time conveying two occupants, both of whom sustained serious injuries. First responders transported the operator of the minivan, Josefa Ortiz Silva, 59, and her 64-year-old male passenger, to University Medical Center. Medical personnel listed their injuries as non-life-threatening.
Police are still investigating the crash, to determine why Aceto took to the wrong way leading to his death. Officials would include additional findings in the accident reports upon conclusion of the investigation.
