Officers responded to the crash on Harborside Drive shortly after 10:am., on reports of a traffic collision that left one person in critical condition. At least three vehicles were involved in the wreck, according to the Galveston Police Department.

The incident began when a motorist operating a vehicle in the area of 51st Street and Harborside Drive suddenly drove across a median. The westbound vehicle drifted into eastbound traffic, and onto the path of an oncoming pickup truck driven by Bradley Taylor, 50, of Deer Park. The two cars collided head-on.

Seconds after the initial crash, a big rig approaching in the area struck at least one of the vehicles, causing severe damages. Taylor suffered severe damages in the wreck, while the driver of the wrong-way vehicle sustained severe injuries.

Paramedics transported the two injured victims to the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he later succumbed to his wounds. The other motorist remains hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. Meanwhile, the operator of the semi went unscathed.

Officers did not immediately divulge if impairment by drugs or alcohol was a probable cause of the crash. Charges are still pending at this time.

Commuters involved in traffic collisions should endeavor to get in touch with a car accident lawyer in due time.
