Frederico Flores Killed After Crashing Truck into Median on Border Highway


A driver died on Thursday morning after he crashed a truck into a median on the Border Highway in the area of U.S. 54.

He is 44-year-old city employee Frederico Flores. He was driving a Ford Ranger owned by the City of El Paso Streets and Maintenance Department.

The crash occurred around 6:10 a.m.

Police said Flores was driving south on U.S. 54 when he merged into Loop 375, swerved across the lanes, and struck the median in the center.

It was not immediately clear why he went across the lanes and crashed the truck.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The authorities said Federico Flores died at the scene.

His death was the 19th traffic fatality in El Paso for 2020. According to police data, for the same period in 2019, there were 13 fatalities.

While police investigated, all eastbound traffic was blocked on the Border Highway. The investigation took up much of the morning.

Texas is home to in excess of 13 million licensed drivers and it gets millions of visitors.
