The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, on Monday, May 25, identified a 44-year-old man, Gabriel Gallegos, as the victim of a collision involving two vehicles on Loop 1604 and Lockhill Selma Road, Texas. Accident reports revealed that the victim’s vehicle collided with another car that a woman identified as Mariano Campos-Jimenez drove.
The crash happened on Saturday, May 23, around the hours of 2 a.m. Officials reported that Gallegos was driving an SUV and heading east on Loop 1604. Campos-Jimenez, driving a Mercedes Benz sedan, was intoxicated at the time of the crash and going the wrong way. She struck the victim head-on, killing him.
Paramedics, on arrival at the crash scene, pronounced Gallegos dead. Police arrested the driver of the Mercedes, charging her with intoxication manslaughter. Campos-Jimenez later regained her freedom after she posted a $75,000 bond, according to records.
Driving while intoxicated, while being dangerous to a person, is also hazardous to other motorists. It is against the law to drive after consuming alcohol, and hence, drivers must desist from doing such.
When motorists drink and drive, they lose focus and control of themselves. This, in turn, causes them to speed or move dangerously while on the roadway. Most times, this results in a collision with other vehicles, crashing into objects or veering off the roads.
Accident reports state that a lot of people die or sustain severe injuries from DWI crashes. It is a major cause of many collisions that occur on the highway. Hence, drivers have to adhere strictly to road traffic rules and regulations to avert them.
