Jeremy Blackshear, Teen Passenger Die in Katy Crash

Two people who were injured in a crash in Katy on Monday have died. They are 29-year-old Jeremy Blackshear and an unnamed 13-year-old boy.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that the boy and another two minors were in a Chrysler 300 that was heading west on Morton Road.

The driver, Jeremy Blackshear, crashed around 6:15 p.m. in the area west of Katy Hockley Road.

The sheriff’s office said a witness reported that Blackshear was speeding and he failed to stay in his lane. He reportedly went over the eastbound lane and collided with a guardrail on the southern side of the road.

The vehicle kept going west and then flipped into a ditch and rolled into a tree line.

Investigators said Blackshear was traveling at 100 miles per hour when he lost control of the vehicle.

It is believed that Blackshear and the 13-year-old boy were ejected from the car.

Blackshear was declared dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the boy was airlifted to Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center and he passed away on Tuesday.

Earlier media reports indicated that the three boys were brothers and the two survivors were 16 and 12.

The other two boys were taken to a hospital in the area, but their conditions were not revealed.

Speeding is a common factor in car accidents. When drivers go above the speed limit or drive too fast for road conditions, they are more likely to lose control of the vehicle.

Speeding also makes it more difficult to stop in time if there’s a hazard in the road.
