AUTHORITIES: JOSE OSORIO KILLED IN HEAD-ON COLLISION IN WINTERS

– One man was killed in a two-car wreck Saturday in rural Runnels County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Jose E. N. Osorio, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, which occurred on Texas 153 about 6 miles outside of Winters. The other driver in the crash also suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

State of Texas officials said Fernando J. Vega, 18, of Buda, was headed east on the highway at about 7:45 a.m. when he collided head-on with a westbound vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle, Osorio, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected, according to authorities.

Osorio was pronounced dead at the scene by investigators. Vega, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, authorities said.

The Runnels County Sheriff’s Department posted a photograph of the scene while emergency responders were working at the scene. One of the vehicles appeared to have been pushed into the ditch, while both sedans suffered extreme front-end damage.

The highway was closed for some time while investigators worked at the scene. Additional details about what led to the wreck weren’t immediately available.
